Railway projects worth over Rs 89,000 crore to be developed in Maharashtra
The Union government has approved railway projects worth Rs 89,780 crores to be developed in Maharashtra. There are 38 projects with a combined length of 5,098 km, and it covers 11 new railway lines, two gauge conversion projects, and 25 doubling works.
Major projects under the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP) have been approved, like MUTP-II, MUTP-III, and MUTP-IIIA. These projects involve procuring 238 rakes of 12-car trains equipped with doors, with a combined cost of Rs 19,293 crore.
Further, platform extension works at 34 stations have been initiated to accommodate 15-car electric multiple unit (EMU) trains.
