Rangpo and Gangtok rail link: Railways fast track project worth Rs 9,000 crore
In a bid to connect North-East India with the rest of the country, the Indian Railways has fast-tracked the Rangpo and Gangtok rail link project. The 34-km rail link between Rangpo and Gangtok is estimated to cost around Rs 9,000 crore.
According to The Times of India, the project was taken up by the Integrated Multimodal Network Planning Group (NPG), the multi-modal evaluation body under the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan. The work on the project will begin once the ongoing link between Sivok in Darjeeling and Rangpo in East Sikkim is completed by December next year.
The 44.5-km Sivok-Rangpo line, being built at an estimated cost of Rs 17,124 crore, will provide the first direct rail connectivity to Sikkim.
