Water Metro: Government plans to have water metro systems in 18 cities
The Union Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways has prepared and circulated a draft National Water Metro Policy (NWMP). This NWMP, which is open for inter-ministerial consultations, aims to expand the water metro system to 18 cities.
For Phase 1, Guwahati, Srinagar, Patna, Varanasi, Ayodhya, and Prayagraj have been identified by the ministry. Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) will undertake the feasibility studies for the proposed projects across 18 locations.
