Maharashtra to likely to get India's first thorium based power plants
As India is looking to expand its nuclear power genration the state of Maharashtra is likely to host India's first thorium-based power plants. The state government is in advanced talks with the Department of Atomic Energy and Nuclear Power Corporation of India (NPCIL) to set up two units: a 1,540 MW plant and a 440 MW unit.
These plants will come up on land owned by MAHAGENCO (Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Ltd.).
