NALCO plans new smelter, scouting for 4000 acres of land in Andhra Pradesh
Government-owned National Aluminium Company (NALCO) is looking to set up a major greenfield aluminium smelter in Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh. The firm is looking for more than 4,000 acres of salt lands at Naupada in Santabommali mandal for the project.
According to the reports, the central inspection team is expected to visit the district soon to assess the feasibility of the proposed site. The central government owns 6,000 acres of salt lands in the area, much of which has been leased to private salt companies. The proposed smelter complex could involve an investment of around Rs 18,000 crore and will export 1.3 lakh tonnes of aluminium.
