SAIL approves Rs 31,000 crore expansion plan for Bhilai plant
Government-owned Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) has approved capacity expansion of its flagship unit -- Bhilai Steel Plant. The plan is to expand the capacity from 6.8 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) to 10.2 MTPA with an investment of Rs 31,000 crore.
The plant manufactures the world's longest single-piece rails, measuring 130 meters, at its Universal Rail Mill (URM) and a variety of heavy structural steel products. This expansion work will take a period of 42 months for completion
