Tata Power to setup is ingot and wafer unit in Gopalpur
Tata Power is planning to set up a 10 GW ingot-and-wafer manufacturing plant in Gopalpur, Odisha. The firm has opted for Odisha over Andhra Pradesh for its Rs 6,675-crore project after evaluating incentives and infrastructure support from the two states.
According to Tata Power, the incentives and the type of support being provided in terms of lower costs of power and other benefits led to the selection of Odisha. The project also benefits from the ready land availability at Gopalpur, where Tata Steel is developing a special economic zone.
It will be developed in two 5 GW phases, with the first phase expected to start operations in January 2028, followed by the second about six months later.
