Rs 15,000 crore investment planned by railways for AI based cameras
Indian Railways has planned to install 75 lakh AI-powered CCTV cameras in coaches and locomotives for Rs 15,000 crore. The cameras would be equipped with AI technology to detect suspicious objects on tracks and alert drivers to apply emergency brakes.
Under the plan, 40,000 coaches, 14,000 locomotives, and 6000 EMUs will be equipped with AI-enabled CCTV cameras for which the high-value tender is set to be floated by October. Railways is also exploring options for using technology such as Lidar.
