BMC announce to acquire 120 acres land
Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced that it will take over 120 acres of the Mahalaxmi Racecourse in the next two weeks from the Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC). The officials say some areas, including a plot where a Metro 3 station will come up and a portion where a swimming pool exists for horses, are still to be demarcated.
In March the Maharashtra state govt issued a Govt Resolution (GR) to develop a 'Mumbai Central Park' on 120 acres of Mahalaxmi racecourse land. The park will be a "theme park" designed on the lines of iconic green spaces in New York and London.
