BMC plans elevated corridor over Western Express, to infuse Rs 5,500 crore
Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has plans to build an elevated corridor over the Western Express Highway (WEH) with an estimated cost of Rs 5,500 crore. As per the update, the tender for this project will be floated after the detailed project report (DPR) is approved by the government.
The highway’s length is about 25 km, and the elevated section will consist of three to four single-pier cable-stayed bridges, which will connect to underpasses at junctions. DPR will be prepared in the next 5 to 6 months, and the project is expected to complete within four years from the commencement date.
As per BMC design will involve a 15.3-km-long elevated corridor between Mahim and Malad which will be divided into three to four sections on the bridges the elevated corridor will increase the number of lanes on both carriageways to 14 or 16, including lanes underneath, and the building of tunnels.
