Sawalkote Hydroelectric project: Work begins on project worth Rs 5,129 crores
The government has kicked off work on the Sawalkote Hydroelectric Project, to be developed on the Chenab River in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K). This project is worth Rs 5,129 crores and is significant given the suspension of the Indus water treaty by the Indian Government last year.
It would be a run-of-the-river hydropower plant planned on the Chenab River in the Udhampur and Ramban districts. NHPC has also floated a tender inviting bids for the construction of the project.
