Kalwa-Airoli rail link project: Demolition drive marks the start of the work
The Central Railway (CR) has begun work on the Kalwa-Airoli rail corridor. CR conducted slum demolition, and in the first phase, the authorities have razed about 150 slums.
Spanning 8 km, the corridor will facilitate a direct connection between Navi Mumbai and Kalyan. The work is divided into 2 phases; Phase I included building the Dighe Gaon station, which has been completed. Phase 2 includes work on the corridor.
The suburban railway corridor will also facilitate trans-harbour trains bypassing Thane station, taking off major load.
