Cabinet approves Rs 1856 crore for sports goods manufacturing scheme
The Union Cabinet has approved Rs 1,856.67 crore to boost sports goods manufacturing in India. This scheme is aimed at attracting global and domestic investors and boosting exports of sports goods.
This announcement is in line with the announcement made in the Budget for this year (2026-27) for the Khelo India Sports Goods Manufacturing Scheme. The scheme calls for the establishment of dedicated Sports Goods Manufacturing Zones(SGMZSs), bringing producers, suppliers, testing facilities, and design centers together via the BHAVYA Scheme and NICDC Industrial Parks.
The scheme will run from 2026 to 2033–34 with Rs 1,130 crore earmarked jointly for anchor manufacturer support and turnover-linked incentives to scale up domestic output.
