Shipping ministry to set National Maritime Heritage Complex
Central Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways have plans to develop National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC). The complex would be set at the port site of the Indus Valley civilization in Lothal, Gujarat. This first-of-its-kind complex will showcase India’s rich and diverse maritime heritage.
The project is planned to be completed in EPC and PPP mode under different phases including
- Phase 1A, with 5 galleries and a naval gallery on 35 acres of land at an investment of Rs 774.23 crore.
- In Phase 1B, the remaining portions of the museum will be built, including galleries, a lighthouse, a 5D dome theatre, Bagicha Complex, and other infrastructure.
- Phase 2 will consist of state pavilions, Lothal city, Maritime Institute including hostel, eco-resorts, maritime & naval theme park, climate change theme park, monument theme park, and adventure & amusement park.
As of now, Hafeez Contractor has been appointed as the principal management consultant of the project, while Tata Projects has been awarded an EPC contract for the Construction, Testing, and Commissioning of NMHC Phase 1A. The tender process for phases 1B and phase 2 is in progress and is targeted to be completed by December 2022.
