Water Metro: Project to be fully solar powered
Kochi Metro Rail (KMRL) which is planning to roll out Water Metro services says it would be fully powered by solar energy by 2024. As of now, KMRL meets more than 50 percent of its electricity requirement through its solar energy plants. The Water Metro project requires around eight MW of energy for functioning and the required power would be generated from various projects aided by the government.
The metro authority is also planning to set up a solar power plant on 45 acres in Kasaragod as part of its goal to attain 100 percent energy self-sufficiency. The plant will be set up on a vacant plot.
