Andhra Pradesh government plans development of new ports, fishing harbour
The state government of Andhra Pradesh has unveiled a blueprint for multi-modal infrastructure transformation in the state. Under the AP Maritime Policy 2024–29, the government will develop greenfield ports and four fishing harbours.
The port projects that are being developed are: Ramayapatnam, Mulapeta, and Machilipatnam. As per updates, Ramayapatnam (78.48% physical progress), Mulapeta (75.5%), and Machilipatnam (57.78%) are firmly on track for a December 2026 completion, while the Kakinada Gateway Port (41%) is set for 20208 completion.
Fishing harbours are being developed at—Juvvaladinne, Uppada, Nizampatnam, and Machilipatnam. These harbours are approaching phase 1 completion. Phase-2 projects are being developed at Budigatlapalem, Pudimadaka, and Kothapatnam. Further, the government has started land acquisition for the 3,500-acre Duggarajapatnam Mega Shipbuilding Cluster.
