Parandur airport: Tamil Nadu government scraps the project
The Tamil Nadu state government has decided to scrap the proposed greenfield airport at Parandur near Chennai. As per the government, the project has been dropped due to concerns that a significant portion of the acquired land is unsuitable for runway construction due to the presence of extensive water bodies.
Proposed to be spread over 4,970 acres, the project saw protests since its announcement in 2022, with local farmers and environmental activists opposing the large-scale displacement.
