Tamil Nadu Budget 2026-27: Rs 13, 561 crore allocated for transport sector
The newly elected Tamil Nadu government tabled the revised budget for 2026-2027 on Wednesday. In the budget, the government has allocated Rs 13,561 crore to the transport department.
This amount will be spent on various schemes and projects such as:
- Deployment of1,000 air-conditioned electric buses for the city under the gross cost contract (GCC) model
- Rs 500 crore has been earmarked for upgrading electric vehicle infrastructure
- Rs 7,675 crore has been allocated asocated as subsidy to the state transport undertakings to support their operations
- Rs 1,005 crore has been earmarked for equity capital assistance for the transport corporations
- Rs 2,650 crore has been provided as viability gap funding
