Government proposes Rs 10,000 crore container manufacturing scheme
The Union government is moving towards the scheme that it proposed in the Union Budget 2026-27. In this year's budget, the government proposed the Container Manufacturing Assistance Scheme (CMAS) with an outlay of Rs 10,000 crore over five years.
This new scheme will provide capital assistance for Greenfield manufacturing facilities, while existing Brownfield units will receive support for expansion. The scheme aims to develop a globally competitive container manufacturing ecosystem and raise India’s annual domestic production capacity to around 7.5 lakh Twenty-foot Equivalent Units (TEUs).
