Gujarat to get greenfield shipbuilding and repair cluster
The Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways (MoPSW) has given its approval for two large-scale initiatives under the Shipbuilding Development Scheme (SbDS) in Gujarat. These projects involve the development of a Greenfield shipbuilding cluster in Porbandar and a new ship repair facility at Vadinar, along the western coastline of India.
Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) called the National Shipbuilding and Heavy Industries Park–Gujarat (NSHIP-Gujarat) is developing a project in Porbandar to transform Porbandar into a major centre for the construction of large commercial ships.
Vadinar project, estimated to cost Rs 1,570 crore, is being developed through a partnership between Cochin Shipyard Ltd. (CSL) and the Deendayal Port Authority (DPA). The project will include a 650-metre jetty, two large floating dry docks, and comprehensive workshops, making it one of India’s biggest repair sites for commercial and possibly defence vessels.
