Government plans to procure 437 vessels to boost domestic fleet
The central government has approved the procurement of 437 vessels to boost the domestic fleet. Some vessels can be domestically manufactured, others may require structured tenders, allowing imports of initial units, said the officials from the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways.
As per the Ministry Green tugs and medium-range tankers are being built domestically. For highly specialised vessels like VLGC (Very Large Gas Carriers) and VLCC (Very Large Crude Carriers), the government is using structured tenders.
