Inland waterways project: Investment worth Rs 50,000 crore planned by government
The Union Port, Shipping, and Waterways minister has informed that India is planning an investment of around Rs 50,000 crores to improve its inland waterways in the coming 5 years. Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said over Rs 23,000 crores has been earmarked for New National Waterways Development and Green Shipping initiatives in inland waterways.
Further, the government is also developing shipbuilding and repair facilities across 111 national waterways, reducing logistics costs and boosting ancillary industries while focusing on the socio-economic well-being of coastal communities.
