Union Cabinet gives nod to semiconductor projects worth Rs 3,936 crores
The Union Cabinet, led by PM Modi, has approved two new semiconductor projects under the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM). These projects, worth Rs 3,936 crores, include the country's first commercial Mini/Micro-LED display facility based on Gallium Nitride (GaN) technology, and a semiconductor packaging unit.
Both projects would be developed in the home state of PM Modi, Gujarat. These projects would be developed by Crystal Matrix Limited (CML) and Suchi Semicon Private Limited (SSPL). CIML will set up the Mini/Micro-LED display facility based on Gallium Nitride (GaN) with an annual production capacity of 72,000 square metres of Mini/Micro-LED display panels and 24,000 sets of RGB GaN epitaxy wafers.
While Suchi Semicon will develop an Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility in Surat with a production capacity of 1,033.20 million chips per annum.
